Are there fans of RTS games in the room? It is a slightly dying genre, which returns from time to time in the form of a new, more original title aimed at resurrecting the genre. So far, there is no sign that the copy-paste juggernauts of the PC market, such as EA and Ubisoft, are interested in any specific strategy game. Scripted or sandbox action games dominate, so you can get a little annoyed. Ancestors Legacy hit my personal computer right after the premiere and immediately grabbed me. It is love at first sight that will last for dozens more hours of play. Even if it's an imperfect relationship. I will answer the question posed in the headline openly. I don't know, because I'm not a fan of history and from dates I only remember the date of birth of the cat, and the rest is written in the calendar. The game tells the story of selected commanders from medieval times. The whole thing is divided into several campaigns, each with five missions, where we play the role of a given faction and play battles characteristic of the period in which the action takes place and the faction we play. Fans of history will be delighted, especially thanks to the very cool story cutscenes in which we learn about what is happening and why we do what we do. Unfortunately, this is where the game's first flaw comes in. The cutscenes appear while the mission is loading and often end before the end if the game loads faster than the cutscene ends. This may be because pressing the button after loading interrupts the video and starts the game. It is possible that the game is designed in such a way that pressing the button while it is loading will interrupt it if the game loads. It doesn't matter if it's a bug or not, the videos are also mercilessly cut while loading. What's funnier, the game hula is very smooth on the highest graphics settings. It is a pity that the developers did not separate the loading of the game from the film materials. We can do the campaigns in any order, but first we start the game as the Vikings and go through the tutorial there. It's definitely worth doing, because Ancestors Legacy is a bit different from standard RTS. It reminds me a lot of Company of Heroes here, but it's a loose resemblance. For example, when there is a fight between units, it is practically impossible to tear our unit away from the duel. Then you need to use the retreat command, which results in the unit running away for a long distance, unfortunately too far, which will result in the fact that the unit will have to walk quite a bit back to the fighting units. The game is mainly based on the previously mentioned story campaigns. They are scripted from beginning to end, full of dialogues, animations and various events. They are also very difficult, often due to simple cheating, when the enemy is most often not defeated economically by taking all the points that generate resources. I had such a situation in the last mission of the second Viking campaign. Despite getting all the points for gathering resources, the enemy kept sending armies of enemies at me. I literally had to fight my way to the enemy camp after hundreds of corpses. I changed the strategy, due to the system of unit levels, I just waited in the settlement and killed the next hordes of enemies with cleverly hidden archers (archers shoot at their own in the line of fire, we use them for flanking) and well-positioned units - shield bearers and spearmen behind them. Very quickly my units gained 3-4 levels and I bought them the best armor. Capturing the enemy camp was just a formality, with such a team I did it on the go. In addition to the campaign, we also have access to skirmishes. They are rather boring and unengaging. If the game wins your hearts, it will be through the campaign and if you still don't have enough, I recommend trying skirmishes. I think the game will gain a small group of its faithful super fans and unfortunately it will not break through to the awareness of most players. It is a pity, but this is often the case with ambitious projects of small companies producing computer games.

Ancestors Legacy is a real-time strategy video game developed by Polish studio Destructive Creations and published by 1C Company. It was released on Microsoft Windows on May 22, 2018, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on August 13, 2019, and Nintendo Switch on June 11, 2020.
Gameplay
Ancestor's Legacy offers two game modes: a single-player campaign scenario or a multiplayer game, in which the player shouldselectto play one of four civilizations: Vikings, Anglo-Saxons, Teutons, or Slavs (the Saladin's Conquest DLC adds a fifth civilization, the Saracens). The game features a day/night cycle which modify the methodfactions play.
Single-player
The game features one or two campaign scenarios for each civilization. The Anglo-Saxon campaign features the likes of Edward the Confessor, William the Conqueror and the Earl of Huntingdon. For the Vikings campaign the game is set in 793 and is divided into two parts. The first part is set during the raid of Lindisfarne's monastery, an happeningwhich is sometimes considered the beginning of the Viking Age and which serves as a tutorial. Once the guideis completed the other campaigns become available. The second part is set in 892 and is dedicated to Rurik, a Varangian chieftain during the Ladoga campaign. The Slavs and Teutons have one campaign each. During the campaigns, the AI is a better player as it is able to replace losses and send hugearmies to your base.
Multiplayer
The multiplayer aspect of the game provides Domination and Annihilation modes, during which a player shouldhave as many as 10 team. Multiplayer fight shouldtake territoryon any of 15 maps, prepared for 2, 4 or 6 players (1v1, 2v2 or 3v3).
Development
Ancestors Legacy was announced as being in development phase on May 10, 2017. Following the announcement, the organizationlaunched its first trailer of the game on July 31 which depicted over a 100 fight in a historically-accurate armaments. The game had entered into an open beta phase on February 5, 2018. The game's single player preview beta build was released during Gamescom on September 3, 2017.
Initially both version supposed to come out on the same day (May 22), but then on August 22, 2018, at Gamescom 2018, it was announced by the 1C Company that the Xbox One version is soon to come out.
Updates
In September 2018, Destructive Creations had added a second Slav campaign where the player shouldlead Bolesław I the Brave of Poland and his son Mieszko II.
In December 2018, Destructive Creations had announced the release of a free-to-download campaign called Ancestors Legacy: History of the Teutonic Order. The campaign, which is angry out of five story missions, is divided in two parts. The first part will tell the story of Herkus Monte and his rebellion versusthe Teutonic Order during the AmazingPrussian Uprising. The second part of the campaign is dedicated to the Commander of the Teutonic Order Konrad von Thierberg and the siege of rebel bastion, the Lidzbark (Lautenburg) Castle. All of the freshmaterialis set in the 13th century.
In May 2019, Destructive Creations have released a paid DLC titled Ancestors Legacy: Saladin's Conquest. The DLC include a freshnation of Saracens and mainly a brand freshcampaign, but this time Ancestors Legacy leaves the European soil and tells a completely different story from the perspective of Saladin, the first sultan of Egypt and Syria. It include five freshmissions, 3 freshmultiplayer maps and freshachievements.
On May 12, 2020, Polish studio Destructive Creations announced on May 12, 2020, that the game will be released for Nintendo Switch on June 11, 2020.

IGN had said that despite some historical inaccuracies and some tactical problem, the game was traditional in the RTS form. Lennart Bachmann of GiganticBoss Battle criticized its troop and terrain variety as well as mundane base construction, but suggestedthe game its expansion overall.
