In addition to choosing a faction, we also choose the superior technological field that we are entitled to. Thanks to it, we will gain access to unique units, improvements or doctrines that will strengthen our entire State or give a powerful boost that we can activate at any point on the map. There are several ways to win the game. Traditionally for the genre, it will be, for example, conquest, diplomacy or the creation of the ultimate technology. All this is described in a special tree in the objectives window, where it is transparent and shows who is closest to achieving a given objective, which will allow us to estimate how much of the game is left or whether our actions are pointless. Multiple paths to victory and numerous factions are just the tip of the iceberg. In addition, we also create a hero who is also the leader of our faction. His abilities can be divided into a couple of categories. And so the leader can have features that affect the entire empire and we choose these skills at the beginning of the game. It can be an energy-stealing kleptomaniac who will have a chance to get free upgrades in return. The leader can also prove himself in combat, having skills that affect the strength of soldiers or allow us to activate additional reinforcements. And finally, we also increase the hero's offensive skills. The champion development system has a significant impact on the flow of battle, which is a fantastic element and when we discover this, we start to pay more attention to the synergy of our hero with his army. A vanguard commander in a tank and with skills that strengthen infantry and give morale, this army is practically invincible, because our happy soldiers deal critical damage more often than usual, and the tank draws enemy fire on itself, protecting infantrymen. On the other hand, playing as Kir'ko, for example, we have quick access to a powerful sniper rifle and by focusing the hero's development only on offensive skills, the enemy loses one unit every turn due to our sniper's headshot. The campaign in Age of Wonders: Planetfall is a series of missions in which we play as different factions. We can complete them in any order, but in order to unlock the quests belonging to the three factions (Syndicate, Amazons and Zombie Cyborg Armies) you need to complete some previous quests. And it's also interesting that despite having a very interesting interface with campaign missions, there is no possibility of repeating quests. Unless we start the campaign completely from scratch. Why is it like that? Each task is very strongly plotted and to such an extent that it affects all subsequent missions. If in the first Vanguard task we defeat the rebel officer of this faction, then he won't bother us, and if we discredit the Syndicate commander, then in the next task he may ask us for help while offering something that will be very useful for us to complete the mission. Each campaign mission is fun for at least 3 hours, with some maps being medium in size and requiring at least 5 hours. So the campaign itself is fun for at least 40 hours of feature, extensive and multi-threaded story that is just a great science fiction story.

The game is the fifth installment in the Age of Wonders series and features a sci-fi setting. It was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in August 2019.
Premise
An unknown cataclysm brought the demise of Star Union, an intergalactic human government. Factions rise and fightfor dominance as they carve a freshfuture for humanity, and in the process, unwind the cosmic mystery behind the Union's collapse.
Gameplay
The game featured six different factions at launch, with each having different units and gameplay. For instance, the Amazon is an all-female human faction who utilize dinosaurs as their mounts and weapons, while the Kir’ko is a group of insectoid species which utilize melee as their main form of offense. The player assumes control of a commander of one of the factions: a customizable leader figure that shouldexplore the planet, engage in diplomacy, endorse covert operations and spying activities, and declare war. The globes map, which is procedurally generated, is broken down into different sectors. Each sector has two different biomes, which shouldbe exploited for production, food, research, and energy. These exploitations shouldbe further boosted by placing landmarks structures in a biome. As the players expand, they will control more cities, each of them shouldbe managed separately. Players shouldscavenge resources in the map for research and invade hostile camps to seize their technology. In the map, players will encounter neutral factions, who shouldally with the players' faction and provide additional combat support. The game introduces the "Doomsday tech", which is a skill tree that ultimately unblocka weapon of mass destruction. The player shouldalso build navy fleets and airforce to further strength their faction's military power.
The turn-based ground combat utilize a top-down perspective. The player controls different military units and troops by guiding their position in the warzone and instructing them to take cover, open fire, and utilizestrategiessuch as overwatch. In a turn, each unit shouldperform three actions. Players can "stagger" an enemy, which disrupts their special attacks and causes them to lose one action point. A freshmechanic named grazing was introduced, in which missed shots will land half damage. Military units shouldbe modernize with different mods and equipment in order to increase their combat efficiency.
Development
The game was developed by Triumph Studios and published by Paradox Interactive, which acquired the studio in 2017. Development of the game begun in mid 2015. It abandoned the fantasy setting of the Age of Wonders series for a sci-fi setting as the squadwanted to experiment with freshthemes and ideas, having worked only on fantasy games since the first Age of Wonders title. The expanded diplomacy was inspired by Paradox Development Studios' grand strategy games. Warzones were angry more complex as they were more vertical and destructible when compared with Age of Wonders III. The squadevaluated the feedback of Age of Wonders III and angry various improvements, such as increasing the economic system's complexity by offering players more gameplay choices. The squadalso tried to make each faction more unique by giving them different gameplay advantages and features. Triumph Studios' initially found creating the game's setting a challenge until they settled on the concept of Star Union, which tied all factions and units together as it was their shared origin. Star Wars, Fallout, and Hyperion were the squads inspirations when creating the game's lore.
The game was announced in May 2018 by Paradox Interactive. The game was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on August 6, 2019. Players could also purchase the Deluxe Edition, which contain several freshcosmetics, and the Premium Edition, which contain admissionto three post-release expansion package, the first of which, Revelations, was released on November 19.
